Buyer Reviews

Length:: 9:51 Mins
The video is long at nearly ten minutes, so right here is a short break down:
:00-two:10 : Introduction, keypad operation, and some swift fixes to difficulties that I had upon delivery
2:10-End : Tear down and display of door locking hardware, discussion of security concerns

I bought this secure to store a loaded handgun for somewhat speedy retrieval, and I'm going to depart from a quantity of the testimonials right here in that I am not convinced of how secure this secure is. It is unquestionably a great deal more secure than keeping the gun in an unlocked desk drawer or the like. It's also considerably bigger than a handgun and for that reason even more hard to hide, so it could attract attention. The specifics that I present beneath and in the video is to educate you if you didn't know it already (like I didn't when I purchased this), just so that you can make an informed acquire. This safe may well be great for you, or it may well be fully inadequate.
If your aim is to maintain young kids out, then I'd advocate this secure and call it a excellent worth assuming that you happen to be intelligent about hiding the keys from your kids. Young kids should not be in a position to get into this secure.
If your goal is to maintain teenagers or thieves out, then my recommendation begins to drop assuming that your teenagers are anything like I was when I was that age - inquisitive, interested in solving puzzles, and with some spare time. Beneath are some items to be aware of just so that you know about them (I did not know any of this until I spent about 30 minutes on the internet and YouTube, so it is out there for your youngsters and crooks to uncover quickly and simply).
Prospective Security Concerns:
- Security Code Reset: There are techniques to reach the reset button to the dialpad from outside the safe, giving somebody entry into the safe with out knowing the code. In the video at about the 8:30 mark, I show how to use a twist-tie to defeat this attack.
- Lock Selecting: This safe can be opened with a single key that overrides the keypad, meaning that there is a single lock to choose. You (and everyone) can analysis on the web how to choose this type of lock, and you could be surprised how effortless it can be. You can disable the important function by removing portion of the mechanism inside the door, but then you danger locking yourself out.
- Safe Bouncing: This is the method of opening this kind of safe by imparting a shock on the door (e.g. with a hammer). I show in the video the basis of how this operates. From what I saw in the mechanism when hitting the door, it looks like it would be feasible with this safe. Nonetheless, in fairness to this product, I admit that I have not however gotten this to work on this secure. [UPDATE 2011/02/09: Soon after a couple of minutes of practice tonight, I bounced the safe with a rubber mallet. It was not hard at all, so just be conscious of it.]
That said, it is quite possibly great for keeping out younger kids - and there are some nice features.
Pros:
- The beeping on the keypad can be disabled. That is really good
- Fairly compact and can be placed on a shelf in a closet or pantry
- Can be bolted to the surrounding structure (on the bottom and/or back face) and comes with the bolts
- Comes with the batteries for the keypad
- Comes with two copies of the important put to use to override the keypad in case the batteries are low or you forget your code
I had some problems when the secure was delivered but right here are some simple fixes for a couple of shortcomings that you might knowledge, as well:
- The shelf is held in place by two (1 on each side) plastic inserts. My secure arrived with one particular of the plastic inserts broken, and the shelf was rattling about as I unpacked it. Given how it was packaged (and how delivery firms transport goods), I wasn't suprised. I secured the shelf in place very easily with a twist-tie.
- The door was loose when closed and would clank (it is metal on metal, after all) when I touched the dial or entered my code. Not what I want when attempting to be covert. The two bumpers on the door were overly compressed (perhaps for the duration of shipping), and I replaced them with a great deal more solid bumpers that I had purchased at Household Depot for my kitchen cabinet doors (equivalent to these). The door is great and snug now.
Overall, well worth $60-$70 for piece of thoughts with young kids. I do not advise relying on this to keep out a burgler or inspired teenager, although.
UPDATE 2011/08/07: I want to give a hats off to Stack-On. Even though trying out a way to make this a bit extra secure, I damaged the circuit card inside the door. I contacted Stack-On, told them it was my fault, and asked how considerably it would price to get a new one particular. They immediately replied that they'd send me one more one particular for no cost (not even a charge for shipping). Totally unexpected and considerably appreciated - that's outstanding service, IMO. It arrived within a week and functions perfectly. Thanks, Stack-On!

If you're seeking for a household secure to shop valuables and critical papers in, this is a decent choice. It has obtainable holes in the bottom and the back of the secure to either mount to floor and/or wall. The ability to turn off the beeping keypad is a benefit for those looking for a spot to retailer a weapon for emergencies.
As other people have said, this is not a "fire" safe - it is a theft safe. If you are searching for some thing to guard your possessions in case of fire, appear particularly for a fire safe.
This safe comes with keys that will open the secure using a hidden keylock in case the battery dies. Also, an LED will let you know when your battery is obtaining low.
Of all the safes in this value range, this appears to be the best bang for the buck. Also, at 30 shipping weight - absolutely free super saver shipping from Amazon is a plus!
